Survey Suggests Breast Procedures Have High Satisfaction Rates
At its annual meeting, October 31-November 5, American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) members reported the results of a first-of-its-kind study of patients' attitudes toward their breast surgeries. They found out that the overwhelming majority of women considered the procedure a success and would have the surgery again.
Researchers interviewed 325 patients of breast augmentation, breast lift, breast lift with implants, and breast reduction over a 5-year period. About 81 % of the patients completed the study over the full five years. Of these women, 99 % of them said they would have the procedure again. 91 % of patients reported improved self-esteem following their breast procedures. In addition, the average rating for quality of results was 9.2 out of 10.
Other important results:
This data represents reassurance for women with doubts about their breast augmentation operation. Although great results and full satisfaction cannot be guaranteed, this data shows that, for the most part, women really do see pleasing results from their breast procedures.

- When asked about breast shape, the majority of women preferred a convex breast, or one that was fuller on top
- Following breast procedures, patients used prescription painkillers for an average of 5.4 days, resumed driving after an average of 5.8 days, returned to work in about 7.5 days, and felt "back to normal" in 27.8 days. Although your personal results may be different, this information can be used as a useful guide when planning your breast procedure.
- Postoperative discomfort was rated an average of 5.4 out of 10. The procedure with the highest reported discomfort (avg 5.9) was breast augmentation, while breast reduction had the lowest reported discomfort (3.3)
