BOTOX® Cosmetic injections have become the most popular cosmetic procedure in the United States because they are effective and versatile. BOTOX® Cosmetic can improve the appearance of frown lines, forehead creases, and crow's feet. BOTOX® Cosmetic does not work on all wrinkles, but for those it does, it is a safe, effective, and minimally-invasive procedure.

How BOTOX® Cosmetic Works
All of our muscles are controlled by nerves that not only perform as commanded, but learn to anticipate commands from the brain. The same muscle memory that helps you swing a golf club or shoot a free throw without consciously manipulating every muscle works in your face as well. Our faces become habituated to creating certain expressions, and they maintain these expressions, creating unwanted wrinkles.
BOTOX® Cosmetic overrides this conditioning and helps the muscles to relax when not commanded to contract. This leads to the smoothing of many common facial wrinkles.
Advantages of BOTOX® Cosmetic
- BOTOX® Cosmetic is a non-surgical procedure

- BOTOX® Cosmetic injections are relatively painless
- The results are dramatic
- The results are reversible
- The procedure requires no anesthesia
- BOTOX® Cosmetic can be used to treat many common facial wrinkles, including:
- Frown lines
- Forehead creases
- Crow's feet
- As a side effect, BOTOX® Cosmetic may reduce tension headaches
The BOTOX® Cosmetic Procedure
BOTOX® Cosmetic is injected in a very dilute form. There is not just one injection, but several small ones to ensure precise delivery to only the muscles we want to treat. No anesthesia is required and the procedure takes less than 30 minutes.
BOTOX® Cosmetic Recovery and Results
There is no need to take any time off work after treatment with BOTOX® Cosmetic. You can return to work and all activities right away. In fact, you are encouraged not to lie down for at least four hours after treatment. Voluntary contraction of treated muscles can increase the uptake of BOTOX® Cosmetic and increase its effectiveness.
The results of BOTOX® Cosmetic may take three or four days to become visible, but they are quite dramatic. A deep wrinkle will vanish, leaving only a faint line. The effects typically last for about 4 months, but retreatments may increase the duration.
Risks of BOTOX® Cosmetic
When performed by an experienced and knowledgeable doctor, BOTOX® Cosmetic injection is one of the safest cosmetic procedures available. Some people experience minor swelling and bruising at the injection sites. Some people see drooping of the eyelids, which can be treated with prescription eye drops. Serious side effects you may have seen reported in the media are associated with the use of BOTOX for treating spasms and palsies, which require much higher doses, not with BOTOX® Cosmetic injections.
