Female Cheek Augmentation
Serving Manhattan, New York, Long Island, New Jersey
Next to the appearance of your eyes, the appearance of your cheeks can dramatically age your face. The cheeks are often associated with youthful beauty and health, and many attractive people have strong cheek bones and a softened appearance due to soft tissue in this area. Prominent, full cheeks provide a youthful, healthy appearance. There is a balance that must be achieved throughout your face, and Dr. George Lefkovits understands this and is able to achieve it.
The Goal is Balance
Cheek augmentation can be done for either cosmetic or reconstructive purposes. There are several ways to re-sculpt the face and fill out the cheeks:
- Fat injections (Liposculpture)
- Filler injections (like collagen)
- Soft filler materials (implants)
Fat injections use your own fat harvested from places like the hips, stomach, arms or thighs to fill in the cheeks. The procedure can be repeated in the future to build up more volume or to compensate for some of the fat that is naturally absorbed by your body. Fat has become a popular choice as a filler material for facial rejuvenation for four main reasons:
- It originates form your own body, little to no chance for infection
- It can be harvested from multiple sites
- It is easily injected back and provides a natural look
- New advances in harvesting and transferring fat have contributed to its long-term success
- Possible fat absorption necessitating further grafting procedures.

Collagen is a natural protein that is produced by your body. This protein helps to form the connective tissue that gives your skin strength. As you age, the number of collagen fibers decrease, causing skin to lose its elasticity. Similar to fat injections, collagen is injected beneath the skin. It plumps up lines and wrinkles and adds fullness to sunken areas of the face.
Cheek implants are used to improve the appearance and prominence of your cheeks. There are many implants available that have been manufactured from a variety of materials. This process is performed through incisions inside the mouth through which implants are placed over the cheek bones. Implants are frequently used to bring better balance to the features of your face.
The goal is to use the cheek augmentation to bring your cheeks into balance with the rest of your face, no matter which method is selected.
Possible Complications
Cheek augmentation is a surgical procedure, so there are always risks. Complications involved with cheek augmentation are minimal and include:
- Cheek implants can shift out of alignment, requiring additional surgery to correct the placement
- Infection
- Swelling and bruising
- Implants are made from a variety of different materials, and there may be some risks specific to certain types of implants.
