Are silicone or saline implants best for me?
Selecting your type of implant is a personal choice. Both silicone and saline implants are FDA approved for breast augmentation. Some patients prefer one over the other because of their look, feel, and durability.
In general, silicone implants have a more natural feel, but you must get regular MRIs to check for rupturing. Saline implants can be inserted through smaller incision points, but are more prone to rupturing.
What if my breasts are different sizes right now?
This is common. Most women have some asymmetry in their breasts, but a significant difference in size can be embarrassing. Breast augmentation can fix the unevenness in your breasts by using different sized implants for each breast. After your surgery, you will have more symmetrical, fuller and firmer breasts.
What are the risks associated with breast augmentation surgery?
No surgery can be entirely risk free, but having a board certified plastic surgeon like Dr. George Lefkovits perform your surgery greatly reduces your risk of complications. Some breast augmentation risks and complications include bleeding and infection, scarring, capsule formation( hardening,) implant rupture and blood clots. Following Dr. Lefkovits' post-operative instructions closely will help reduce your risk of complications.
Will recovery be painful?
Larger breast implants require more recovery time and may be more painful. This is also true for implants placed under your pectoral muscle. You can expect discomfort and breast tenderness for a few weeks after surgery. Any pain you experience can be controlled with prescription medication.
How long does it take to recover from breast augmentation?
You will need to plan to get plenty of rest in the first few days after your surgery. Most women can return to work within a week, but you should avoid any strenuous activities that would put pressure on your chest. Usually within a month, you can return to most of your normal activities.
